Meet Dr. Shafik Sachedina, The Experienced Surgeon With A Long Experience In Leadership

Being not only the Head of Department of the Jamati Institutions based in France but Dr. Shafik Sachedina is also charged with the responsibility of coordinating the programs of the Ismaili Community institutions. Jamati Institutions are part of the Aga Khan Foundation. The 67-year-old was born in Tanzania and pursued dental surgery at the University of London at the Guy’s Hospital and Dental school. Having served in England for many years, Dr. Shafik has developed interests in both entrepreneurship and philanthropy, and as a result, he has been rendering his services at the Jamati Institutions on a voluntary capacity.

Not only has he been a member of the Board of Governors for the institute, but Shafik Sachedina is also the chair of the FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance International Committee; a member of the Aga Khan Developments Network (AKDN) Committee based at Aiglemont; as well as a Member of the Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum. Dr. Sachedina has also been president of the Ismaili Council for the United Kingdom for two consecutive terms.

Dr. Sachedina has been serving as a director at the Sussex Health Care, an independent group of homes based in Sussex. The company is located at Tylden House, Dorking Road. Specializing in care for the aged who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia as well as providing specialized care for adult patients who have physical or learning disabilities, the health care is equipped with facilities to support needing various degrees of concern. They also look after those with neurological and acquired brain injury.

Sussex Healthcare recently announced at ismailimail.wordpress.com new purpose-built units at Broadbridge near Horsham in West Sussex which have been equipped with all the latest technologies to provide respite, residential and outreach placements for people nursing neurological conditions and acquired brain injuries. The center reports being in the process of developing services aimed at people with autism and those with severe learning disabilities.

Dr. Shafik Hussein Sachedina has served in various other capacities including the post of a director at Imara U.K Limited where he also worked as a surgeon. He joined the company in January 1992 for a tenure that lasted five years. The surgeon, who is also a British citizen, has also been on the board of directors for other institutions such as the Horsham Clinic Ltd. And Islamic Publications Ltd.

Having an experience that spans over 30 years, Dr. Sachedina is a force to reckon with not only in surgery and medicine in general but also in the leadership of institutions dealing with various aspects of health.
