Infrastructure Investing: What Biden Means for the Trucking Industry

The trucking industry has been a major player in America’s economic growth and development over the past century. The demand for this industry is expected to continue increasing as more people move out of rural areas into metropolitan cities as a result of population growth, globalization, and climate change. When it comes to infrastructure building, there are two main choices: public-private partnerships or direct government spending. Ahead of the 2020 election, Biden’s plan seems to be a bet on an American future that relies heavily on private companies and investors rather than one built by the federal government alone.

There are two different ways to build infrastructure in America: public-private partnerships and direct government spending. Public investments–whether they be from the federal or state governments–encourage competition, innovation, and efficiency among private companies when it comes to building projects like roads, bridges, water systems, etc. Direct government expenditures on infrastructure might have been a worthwhile investment in the 1950s when America was starting to build up its highways. But today there are several public-private partnerships for infrastructure projects that encourage more competition and innovation.

At this time, only 20% of federal transportation funding is allocated to public-private partnerships–a number which Biden says he wants to increase by 50%. Perhaps this is a bet on an American future that relies heavily on private companies and investors rather than one built by the federal government alone.

In conclusion, the trucking industry has been a major player in America’s economic growth and development over the past century, as it continues to be today. The demand for this industry is expected to continue increasing as a result of population growth, globalization, and climate change. In addition, Biden’s new infrastructure could potentially create new jobs in the near future.
